Position Title: Social Worker

Desired Experience: Previous work as a Social Worker in an educational setting

Reports to: Building Principal(s)

Terms of Employment: Salary, negotiable based on years experience and licensure, 192 Contract Days 

Education and/or Experience: Licensed Master’s Degree level Indiana Social Worker (LSW, LCSW)

 

Purpose Statement: To provide a system of supportive services within the school and community for the purpose of better equipping students, staff, and parents to participate effectively in the education system in order that students better benefit from the education provided to them. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Licensed Master’s Degree level Indiana Social Worker (LSW, LCSW)
  2. Strong organizational and leadership skills
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Ability to learn and use all applicable technology
  5. Socially adept and proficient in modeling healthy social and emotional skills
  6. Discretely handle confidential matters

 

Essential Duties: 

  1. Collaborate with the district administration, principals, counselors, School Resource Officer, teachers, and other staff members in resolving problems of individual students. 
  2. Exercise flexibility in all job functions, prioritizing duties based upon severity of need. 
  3. Consult with the school intervention teams in order to support students’ behavioral interventions. 
  4. Plan, develop, and recommend ideas to the principal and school staff to meet emerging needs of students with emotional and social difficulties. 
  5. Develop relationships with students who are at-risk , including  those with potential to dropout, experience behavior problems, face academic failures, have runaway history, are chemically dependent, are pregnant, are mentally ill, etc.
  6. Implement Tier 3 and Tier 2 interventions for students identified with those that need that level of service.
  7. Foster relationships to serve as a liaison to resolve concerns and promote communication between home, school, and community resources by connecting with families through home visits, meetings, phone calls, emails, etc. 
  8. Support students and their families through building interpersonal skills and encouraging  the use of effective communication. 
  9. Initiate referrals to outside resources and monitor engagement with the referral.
  10. As requested, assist in the completion of paperwork to access resources and available benefits. 
  11. Provide crisis intervention services for students who are at risk for self-harm or suicide. 
  12. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and staffings, as deemed appropriate by the social worker to serve as a student advocate. 
  13. Provide follow-up support to students returning to their schools from treatment programs, detention, and correction schools when the request is made by the community provider, family, student or school system.
  14. Participate in in-service training, conferences, and workshops to continue professional development and maintain continuing education credit for licensure.
  15. In the role of a social worker, treat respectfully all persons with whom he or she comes into contact, focusing on strengths of individuals and organizations. 
  16. Serve as a resource for the development of workshops, classes, and seminars for students, parents, teachers and the community to meet identified needs. 
  17. Assist staff with making DCS reports. 
  18. Serve as a student advocate and systems change agent. 

 

Evaluation Process: The social worker will be evaluated through the use of the Charlotte Danielson Rubric and collaborative process of building principals, or other pre-determined evaluation method made available to the social worker at the beginning of the contract year.

One must be able to hear and speak clearly. 

 

Work Environment: District social workers will primarily work in a school building, but may also perform job duties in the homes of families, community resource agencies, public formats, etc. in order to meet stated job goals.
